LAS VEGAS  - On Thursday, March 10, Opportunity Village’s Job Discovery Program was recognized as a Merit Finalist Award Recipient as one of 10 finalists out of organizations nationwide in Mutual of America’s 2015 Community Partnership Award Competition at a luncheon and award presentation at Cili Restaurant in Las Vegas. Also in attendance as supporters of the Job Discovery Program: The Animal Foundation, YMCA, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, Goodwill, Clean the World, Heritage Senior Facility, Three Square Food Bank, Sunrise Children’s Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the Clark County School District.

 

Opportunity Village’s JDP (Job Discovery Program) is a partnership between the organization and the Clark County School District that provides students with intellectual disabilities in high school the opportunity to receive vocational training in six different skill sets including commercial and industrial kitchen work, indoor and outdoor maintenance, retail, grounds keeping, and child care. These students between the ages 18-22 years spend six hours a day learning these skills at 14 various sites and rotating every 9 weeks.

On March 10, Opportunity Village’s CEO Emeritus, Ed Guthrie, accepted Mutual of America’s 2015 Community Partnership Award in honor of Opportunity Village’s Job Discovery Program presented by Ted Herman, Vice Chairman of Mutual of America and Thomas Gilliam, President of the Mutual of America Foundation at Cili Restaurant in Las Vegas.
