Your Contribution will ensure the future of Opportunity Village and leave a lasting legacy for years to come.
Your gift to Opportunity Village supports vitally important programs and services for people with significant disabilities that help create productive and rewarding futures through vocational training, employment, therapeutic respite, creative arts and social opportunities.
People with significant, multiple disabilities at Opportunity Village deserve the same chances in life that every other citizen enjoys.
Opportunity Village paid over $2.5 million in wages to people who are seen by many in the community as unemployable. These wages allow people with significant disabilities to become more independent, self-sufficient and connected to the community.
Currently, over 150 people with disabilities move to Southern Nevada with their families each month. Our two campuses are full and we must keep up with the incredible demand for services. To assure the futures of thousands of people with disabilities, Opportunity Village has mounted the largest capital campaign in its history to build a third Employment and Training Center campus.
Cash gifts Your monetary gift supports the many programs provided to the 3000 people served by Opportunity Village each year. Your tax deductible gift can be a one time, monthly or annual pledge and can also be made by check or credit card.
Deferred Gifts: There are many ways to support Opportunity Village and gifts made through charitable bequest, trusts, life insurance and gift annuities provide a convenient and practical way to leave a legacy to Opportunity Village.
Real Estate: The tax benefits of appreciated real estate, such as land, home and vacation property can be deducted for the full market value of the property and avoid paying tax on the capital gain.
Appreciated Securities: Gifts of stocks and bonds engender exceptional tax savings on capital gains in addition to the income tax deduction associated with charitable gifts. Wire transfers can be immediately arranged.
In Kind Gifts: Contributions of jewelry, air miles, art work, and other valuables made to support event auctions, and also to provide general support for Opportunity Village. In kind gifts are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Beginning January 1, 2005, new federal tax legislation governing vehicle donations goes into effect. The following is a summary of the new legislation contained in (HR 4520).
Under the new law, allowable deductions for charitable contributions of vehicles, boats and airplanes (collectively referred to as “assets” in this summary) for which the claimed value exceeds $500 will depend how the asset is used by the recipient charity. If the organization sells the asset without any significant intervening use or material improvement, the donor’s deduction is limited to the gross sales proceeds received by the charity. But, if the organization uses the asset in direct furtherance of its charitable purpose the donor may deduct the “fair market value” of the asset. (According to the IRS, the donor, not the recipient charity, must determine the “fair market value” which the IRS describes as the price that a willing buyer and willing seller would agree upon if neither were pressured to do so. Assistance with vehicle values can be found at www.kbb.com Kelly Blue Book’s web site) Examples: If a vehicle with a “fair market value” of $4000 is donated directly to the non-profit charity and the organization sells the vehicle for $1000, the donor can only deduct $1000. But, if for instance, the organization provides the vehicle to a disadvantaged person, the donor may deduct the full “fair market value” of $4000. Substantiation requirements when the claimed value exceeds $500 are as follows: No deduction is allowed unless the donor receives a written acknowledgement from the charity. That document must include the name and taxpayer identification number (social security number) of the donor and the vehicle identification number (or similar number) of the asset. Additional documentation is required but is dependant on how the asset is used by the charity: In the event the charity sells the asset without any significant intervening use or material improvement, the charity must send a written acknowledgement to the donor within 30 days of the sale certifying (1) that the asset was sold at an arms length transaction between unrelated parties, (2) the amount of the gross sales proceeds, and (3) include a warning that the donor’s deduction is limited to the sales proceeds. If the charity intends to make significant use of the donated asset (such as providing a donated vehicle to a disadvantaged person) or make material improvements, the required written acknowledgement must be provided within 30 days of the contribution and must certify: (1) the intended use and duration of such use or the material improvements to be made and (2) that the asset will not be transferred in exchange for money, other property, or services before completion of such use or improvements. We are in great need of donated cars, trucks, RVs, boats and just about any other vehicle in good running condition. Donating is easy. Just call us at (702) 383-5911, or click here to fill out a donation form online. If you choose to take a donation of $500 or less, you may deduct up to the "Blue Book" value of your donation. If you feel that your donation is worth more than $500, please contact us at 383-5911. We will then send you verification of the sale price of the vehicle after it has been sold.

Each year thousands of people make donations to Opportunity Village, which allows us to continue providing our vital services to people with disabilities. We rely on that incredible community spirit, and you've never let us down. But even in a city as supportive and caring as ours, it's difficult to plan ahead, to predict the future generosity of countless donors. In light of that uncertainty, we have established the Opportunity Village Legacy Society. And we are asking our long time friends and donors to remember Opportunity Village as they plan their estates. Putting OV in your will or listing OV as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, insures that our important work will go on - helping thousands of deserving Nevadans long after we as individuals are gone. Once you've established a planned gift for Opportunity Village, please let us know. In acknowledgment of your commitment to people with disabilities, you'll receive a special place as a member of our Legacy Society. We were delighted when the fabulous Wayne Newton, a long time friend and supporter, agreed to become Patron of the Legacy Society. A VIP Reception at this year's Concert of Love will formally launch the Society and present Charter Members with a special gift. Legacy Society Charter Membership The greatest benefit is, of course, the knowledge that you have helped secure a brighter future for a group of outstanding people. But you know us, we have other ways of showing our appreciation as well!
Members of our Board of Directors and staff have already taken up this important initiative. Won't you join these community leaders in guaranteeing that our legacy continues? For more information regarding the Legacy Society, please contact Opportunity Village at 259-3741
A common misconception is that planned giving is only for the rich. Planned giving is simply any arrangement, which provides for a gift to charity being made upon your death. Planned giving can be as simple as a beneficiary designation of part of an insurance policy or through a bequest in a will, trust, or otherwise. Planned giving doesn't require a fortune. Planned giving is designed to replace the annual gifts a donor would make but is now unable to because of his or her death. The first obvious question is, "How can I make a planned gift without incurring a lot of costs in revising my estate plan?" One simple alternative for making a planned gift is to designate Opportunity Village as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. You are permitted to divide a life insurance policy among as many beneficiaries as you would like. If you have a $100,000 face value life insurance policy and wish to make a $10,000 gift to Opportunity Village, you can designate that 10% of the policy would be given to Opportunity Village and that 90% is to be distributed among your other beneficiaries, as you desire. This simple change can be made by contacting your insurance company and completing the appropriate beneficiary designation forms. This simple type of planned gift eliminates the need for revising wills or other estate planning documents. A similar beneficiary designation can be made using retirement accounts. One advantage with using an IRA or other retirement account for such a charitable gift is that the charity would not be required to pay income tax on amounts received from an IRA unlike other beneficiaries. One caution, however, is that naming a charitable beneficiary for part of your retirement account may result in the rest of the account being taxed to your other heirs during the year of your death without them having the opportunity to postpone distributions. Many people are concerned that their estate simply isn't large enough to make it worthwhile to give a planned charitable gift. If you routinely give $400 per year to Opportunity Village (through direct donations or purchasing tickets to events), you can replace this stream by making a planned gift of $5,000 if the funds are invested in a way that receives an 8% annual rate of return. Planned gifts to Opportunity Village are generally considered part of our investment fund, which generates income annually for operations. While a $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000 gift would be impossible for many people during their lifetime, such a gift being paid out of insurance or from a retirement account at death is possible and should be considered only if such a gift would not impair the well-being of loved ones left behind.
Donations can be made to Opportunity Village in memory or honor of a family member, friend, or co-worker. Upon receipt of your gift, a card is sent to the family or person honored, listing the name or names of the donor. The amount of the gift is never indicated. Your contribution will be discreetly acknowledged and is tax deductible. We accept cash, check, money order, MasterCard or Visa. You can call our office at 259-3741 or mail to: Opportunity Village
Contributions can be made to Opportunity Village through in-kind gifts such as services, products and supplies. In-kind donations include home furnishings, office supplies and equipment. You can also donate items for an event's silent auction! Good donations for event auctions would include items like air miles, estate jewelry, work of art, dinner gift certificates and show tickets. Call 259-3741 to make arrangements for pick-up or delivery.
