Volunteer Stories
My mother was my role model for volunteering. I grew up watching my mom take time out of her busy life to volunteer in several different areas. When I found myself with extra time on my hands due to reduced hours at work, I decided to volunteer as a way to feel productive. Mom would be proud!
I have a niece and a nephew out of state who have intellectual disabilities, and with Opportunity Village’s great reputation it seemed the natural volunteer choice. I volunteer as office support at the Oakey Campus and enjoy working with the fun, upbeat people there.

I started to volunteer at Opportunity Village in September 2009. After I took a tour of your wonderful facility, my eyes filled with tears of joy. This is the most wonderful experience I have ever had in volunteering. I am at Opportunity Village at least two days a week…more when they are under-staffed. The clients bring such joy to my heart. I love coming in & look forward to my next visit. I adore the staff...they have really accepted me & the clients are very special! Since I have been at Opportunity Village, my blood pressure became so low........I'm HAPPY!!!!!!!!! Thank you all for giving me this wonderful opportunity to be of service to your clients.

When I first decided to volunteer, I knew that I wanted to help others. I knew that Opportunity Village was a well-respected organization and decided to volunteer at the Oakey location. I have been a volunteer in the Employment Training Center since November 2009. Everyone, from the employees of Opportunity Village to the clients is wonderful. Volunteering at Opportunity Village has truly shown me that no matter how different we may seem to be, we are all truly the same. We take pride in our accomplishments and successes no matter how big or small. We laugh and smile at the same silly jokes. Thank you for the opportunity to volunteer, what a great experience it is!
