Picks for OV

Picks for OV is an exciting way for some of Opportunity Village's most ardent supporters and sports fans to have a little fun while simultaneously supporting the organization's mission of enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families who love them.

For our upcoming Spring Basketball fundraiser — Picks for OV Hoops Hoopla  entrants will fill out an NCAA Tournament bracket by March 21 and have the chance to win awesome prizes, compete against celebrities, athletes and prominent Las Vegans, and donate to a great cause. Stay tuned for more information.

Opportunity Village recently completed its inaugural Fall Football contest, where Picks for OV participants chose five teams to win against the spread each week of the National Football League (NFL) regular season with “betting” lines supplied by the program’s sponsor, CG Technology Sportsbooks.

AL BERNSTEIN: Al Bernstein is best known to a national audience as the voice of boxing, first for ESPN, and now as the analyst for Showtime Championship Boxing. This International Boxing Hall of Fame member is considered by many as the most recognizable and respected boxing commentator and is in his 37th year in television.  In addition, Al has carved out a career of varied endeavors and achieved successes in radio, internet, movies, and stage performing and speaking.

CHET BUCHANAN: Chet Buchanan is the creator and host of The Chet Buchanan Show on 98.5 KLUC. He is also highly regarded for his annual Toy Drive, which will celebrate it's 20th year in 2018 and has amassed over $30 million worth of toys, bicycles, and cash and gift cards for Southern Nevada families. Chet is also a television personality and professional auctioneer, as well as the "Voice of NASCAR" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Public Address Announcer for the Las Vegas Aces and UNLV Hockey, Host for all Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl events and Game Day Host for UNLV Football and Basketball. 

OSCAR GOODMAN: Known best as the “Happiest Mayor in the Universe,” Oscar Goodman served three terms as mayor of the city of Las Vegas (1999-2011). After his tenure as mayor, Goodman has remained active in the Las Vegas community. He continues to serve as Las Vegas’ primary ambassador as chairman of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) Host Committee which is made up of local business and civic leaders who engage the Las Vegas community in support of major trade shows and destination events. Goodman also assists in rolling out the “red carpet” to welcome attendees of special events and meetings and conventions to Las Vegas.

FORREST GRIFFIN: Forrest Griffin is an American retired mixed martial artist and a UFC Hall of Famer. Since 2005, he has been signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship where he is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Griffin, a former Georgia police officer, first rose to prominence after winning the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. In the tournament finals, he fought and defeated Stephan Bonnar in Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar, which is widely credited as sparking the current success of the UFC.

JOHN KATSILOMETES: John Katsilometes is the m
an-about-town columnist for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He was named the 2013 Nevada Press Association journalist of the year and is a three-time Best of the West winner for journalistic excellence. He also took home the 2015-16 Nevada Press Association award for Best Local Column.

TC MARTIN: "The Doctor" TC Martin is a sports talk radio host and the play-by-play voice of the Las Vegas Aces' WNBA team. His radio show, The TC Martin Show, has aired nationally in over 100 markets on the Sports Entertainment Network and Sports Fan Radio Network, informing and entertaining sports radio talk listeners both nationally and locally since 1992. TC is also the founder and executive director of the Sacramento Sports Hall of Fame.

Founded in 1954, Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves people in the Southern Nevada community with significant intellectual disabilities, to improve their lives and the lives of their families. Nevada’s largest employer of people with disabilities, Opportunity Village serves nearly 2,000 individuals annually, providing vocational training, employment, habilitation and social recreation programs and services that make their lives more purposeful and interesting. Each week, one OV client will represent Team OV and make the organization's five picks against the spread.

Shawn "Showtime" Porter is an American professional boxer who held the International Boxing Federation's (IBF) welterweight title from 2013 to 2014. He is the current World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion of the world. He is known for his aggressive pressure fighting style, physical strength and high workrate. As of October 2017, Porter is ranked as the world's third best active welterweight by The Ring magazine, fourth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and fifth by BoxRec. He currently holds a 29-2-1 record with 17 knockouts.

Appropriately based in the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, Mayweather Promotions was established in 2007 by 12-time World Champion and currently undefeated boxing icon, Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Mayweather Promotions seamlessly promotes all forms of live entertainment including sporting events, live musical and theatrical events as well as film and television productions.

Scott Spreitzer has spent 25+ years in the world of sports betting and is one of the few bettors/handicappers to be accepted and sought after on several national radio shows as the key go-to analyst with a Vegas perspective. Scott has hosted more than a dozen radio shows in Las Vegas and has appeared as an expert speaker at the National Association of Broadcasters convention, while also hosting the Westgate Super Book's annual football weekend. Most recently, Scott has been co-host of The Las Vegas Sports Line, heard daily on ESPN-Las Vegas.
