Picks for OV is an exciting way for some of Opportunity Village's most ardent supporters and sports fans to have a little fun while simultaneously supporting the organization's mission of enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families who love them.
This unique fundraising initiative features several of the Las Vegas Valley's most recognizable names competing in friendly sports contests to show their support of Opportunity Village's mission and bring much-needed awareness to the estimated 6 million adults living in the United States with disabilities. Opportunity Village wants to ensure these wonderful individuals are granted the same opportunities and resources everyone else receives in their daily lives, and the thousands of dollars raised from Picks for OV go directly into Opportunity Village's programs and services that strive to do just that in Southern Nevada.
For Picks for OV: Football Fever, participants choose five teams to win against the spread (ATS) each week with public “betting” lines released by the program's presenting sponsor. At the conclusion of the 17-week NFL regular season, the person with the highest ATS mark is crowned champion and celebrated at an exclusive watch party thrown by Opportunity Village and friends.
During the NCAA Tournament in March, Opportunity Village shifts its attention from football to basketball and opens its NCAA bracket contest — Picks for OV: Hoops Hoopla. Hundreds of entrants make donations to Opportunity Village, fill out NCAA Tournament brackets, and get the chance to win awesome prizes while competing against celebrities, athletes, prominent Las Vegans and OV clients. The top five finishers of Hoops Hoopla win amazing prizes such as staycations, show tickets, dining experiences and more! Because of its timing during the year, Hoops Hoopla works to support Opportunity Village's Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM) fundraising initiative — March to $100K.
Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Tournament this past March, Opportunity Village was unable to hold its second annual Hoops Hoopla competition. Football Fever will return this fall, when the NFL season kicks off in September.
