Meet Ana P., Risk Management Supervisor

In this series of "Day in the Life of ____", we will be highlighting the various professions Opportunity Village has to offer. This feature is focused on the role of Risk Management Supervisor.

What led you to OV/your current position?

OV has always been a place where I wanted to work because I always admired what they did for the community. Prior to working for OV, I used to work at CCSD. I was a Specialized Program Teacher Assistant and worked with students with disabilities. I taught grade levels K-5 and worked with students who were diagnosed with Autism, ADHD/ADD, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia Disorder, and developmentally delayed students. Although it was a tough job, it was very rewarding, and I really loved it. We often heard of, and spoke about OV and the help and support our students would receive in the future.  My love for OV only continued to grow as I learned more about the organization. After working at CCSD for five years, I decided to finally make my change to OV and follow my lifelong dream. I have been with OV for almost four years now and I definitely don’t plan on leaving!

What does a typical day look like for you?

Due to COVID, my “typical” work day has drastically changed. Prior to COVID, I was in the office Monday-Friday from 8am-4:30pm. Because of the many changes we have faced with COVID, I am now working from home some days. I usually work from home 2 days a week and am in the office 3 days a week. My day starts around 8am. Some days can be jam packed with meetings, while other days consist of writing policy and procedures, conducting internal audits, or assisting in video surveillance. Every day at OV is filled with new and exciting opportunities. Every day is different, making my job interesting!

What is the most exciting part of your job?

The most exciting part of my job would of course have to be creating relationships with our people served. Although I am not a direct care staff, I enjoy walking down the hallways and chatting with our program participants. They always find a way to put a smile on my face. Another part of my job that I find exciting is seeing all the positive changes we are making at OV. From expanding to Bettys Village, looking for new and innovative opportunities for the people served, I am glad to be a part of all of this.

Who inspires you?

The person who inspires me most would have to be my mom. She was a single mom who migrated to the U.S. to give us a better future. My mom taught my sisters and I to be strong, independent, women. She pushed me to my limits and always reminded me to set goals and reach them. I am the first in my family to have graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree and I plan to continue being the “first” in many other things. My mom has always been a kindhearted woman who placed others before herself, and made sure to always help others. I guess that is where I get my kind heart from and the desire to help others and make a difference.  Because of her, I am the young, successful, and proud Latina woman that I am today.

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not working?

My favorite things to do while not working are spending time with my family, going for walks, and working out at the gym. I have two children, a six-year and one-year-old, and they constantly keep me busy! My husband and I take our children on daily walks and enjoy playing in our community park. Although we love our babies, we like getting away for a little and have some time for ourselves at the gym!
