Meet Brittany C., Life Enrichment Coordinator

In this series of "Day in the Life of ____", we will be highlighting the various professions Opportunity Village has to offer. This feature is focused on the role of Life Enrichment Coordinator.

What led you to OV/your current position?

I always wanted to work for an organization that combined my interest in working for a non-profit as well as having an established history of strong community involvement and supports, so naturally I am drawn to Opportunity Village. My current position is Life Enrichment Coordinator at Betty’s Village. In my previous role, I was a Lead Activities Coordinator in the Pride room as part of the day habilitation program at the Engelstad campus.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me begins at 9:30AM when I arrive to the Betty’s Village clubhouse, from there I’ll sit and chat with the residents of Betty’s Village, encourage residential community involvement in activities and events throughout the Clubhouse that are planned and scheduled by myself and Marcus Weathersby. Every day is such a fun day, different activities take place that range from, playing Wii sports, skee-ball, pac man and board games, watching movies, working out in the fitness room, or even just socializing in the resident lounge. Most importantly, I am here to support residents with questions pertaining to Betty’s Village, promoting independence and personal growth.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

I genuinely, whole heartedly love every aspect of my job. Walking into the clubhouse and seeing the residents playing in the game room and joining them for a game of Wii tennis because they needed a playing partner, noticing how residents that were once too shy to make friends spend time in the resident lounge for lunch and socializing are examples of why my job is the best and so fulfilling. Learning more about each resident as people and watching them break out of their shells is the best. Witnessing the residents’ growth in every aspect of their lives from developing their own work/life balance, to creating new friendships and participating in optional activities and events in the clubhouse such as game nights, popcorn socials, movie nights, yoga/zumba, etc. It’s so much fun, every day is so much fun and a great learning experience.

Who inspires you?

My biggest inspirations are my parents. My parents have always supported me and encouraged me in every single thing I have done personally and professionally. They have set great examples my entire life by demonstrating hard work, resilience, love, kindness, and humility. Most importantly, they offer unconditional love through everything. My love and admiration for my parents goes beyond words.

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not working?

When I’m not working, I enjoy hiking, (in the fall and winter), watching movies, yoga, listening to podcasts and music, reading, traveling, and going to concerts! (pre-covid).
