Meet Christina H., Foundation Coordinator
In this series of "Day in the Life of ____", we will be highlighting the various professions Opportunity Village has to offer. This feature is focused on the role of Foundation Coordinator
What led you to OV/your current position?
My philanthropic journey started when I was a teenager, I wanted to join the Peace Corps and help people around the world. In college, I certified in ASL and then married a soldier in the Air Force. We started our lives together in Louisiana, where I worked at a call center as an Employee Engagement Specialist. I oversaw weekly events and nonprofit-related duties. After three years of working in dual roles, I found that I was giving more effort and energy towards the nonprofit work. After this realization, I knew my passion was to continue in this field, as it felt more rewarding to help the community. For over two years, I have been working for Opportunity Village as a Foundation Coordinator. I oversee third-party events, sponsorships for the Las Vegas Great Santa Run, and auction items for Camelot.
What does a typical day look like for you?
For me, there is no ‘typical’ day as every day can be very different! For example, one day I could be at the Las Vegas Ballpark promoting the Las Vegas Great Santa Run and registering people at one of the baseball games. The next day you can find me touring the Oakey and Engelstad campuses, educating new donors about our impact in the community. Sometimes I work closely with other departments like the Fine and Performing Arts Program, as we get OV artists’ artwork sold in local restaurants or businesses. Other days I am a public spokesperson for Opportunity Village at other community events.
What is the most exciting part of your job?
The most exciting part about my job is when I get to speak to groups of people who have never heard of our mission and then they want to find ways to support us. These groups can be anyone from businesses to law firms, pet stores to dispensaries, or even on television. These public speaking opportunities help me grow as a professional and continue to spread the goodness of the organization.
Who inspires you?
What inspires me is how giving and generous some of our community partners can be here in Las Vegas. The longer I work for OV and the more organizations and groups I get to talk to, I find there are many lovely people in this city. I am grateful to hear their stories as I get to share OV's. These connections allow us to bring them into the OV family and help grow the mission for many more years to come.
What is your favorite thing to do when you're not working?
When I am not working, I love to paint/draw, go hiking, travel to new places, explore different parts of the city and eat new and exciting foods. If I am not catching up with friends from back home, I am playing video games with my husband as we enjoy our fur children and our new home here in Las Vegas.
