What led you to OV/ your current position?

I have spent a lifetime (over 30 years) working and volunteering with individuals with disabilities. I was looking for a place to use my skills and passion for helping others. I read about OV and all the wonderful work being done here and wanted to be a part of it! I have a passion for "filling the gap" and advocacy and what a better place to use that passion than at Opportunity Village! Since 2016 when I started at OV I have been given so many opportunities to learn and grow; and in turn I have been able to help others realize their full potential in their own growth and development, so it is like I have come full circle. Overall, my passion for advocacy and professional development is part of what led me to my current position with the organization!

What is your current job title?

Case Management Supervisor

What does a typical day look like for you?

My days can start early, usually with emails and phone calls. I spend a good amount of time assisting and supporting my team in Case Management. I attend a lot of meetings, provide training to my team and other direct care staff in various programs, help to resolve incidents, and provide tools and resources to the case management team and clients. I am honored to be able to interact with our clients daily, and help the team to develop goals and supports for all people served at Opportunity Village. I review support plans; help make sure policies and protocols are being followed and that every client is served and supported to the best of our abilities. More than anything; I can be assured I will spend a good portion of my day as an advocate for the people we serve and making sure my team members are supported in their jobs.

What’s the most exciting part of your job?

Hands down it is seeing our clients reach their goals. There is no better feeling then seeing someone set a goal of personal or professional development, work hard, and achieve their hopes and dreams! Even being a small part of someone's life in this way is extremely rewarding and inspiring for me. I also very much love being a part of program development. It has been amazing to be a part of Opportunity Village for the past 5 1/2 years and see all of the programs, services and supports that we have been able to launch. From the Advocacy dept., to FPA, to Media Management to Ameri-Core, To Pro-Vocational Training, to the OV Ambassador program. The list goes on and on, and it makes me proud to be a part of a team that cares so deeply and works so hard to improve and enrich the lives of the people we serve.

Who inspires you?

My kids. They will never know the inspiration and support they have given to me, especially in recent years. I draw inspiration from everyone around me. I love to hear people's thoughts, idea's, hopes and dreams and learning what motivates them too. I think we are only as strong and resourceful as the network of people we have around us.

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

I love traveling, home improvement, spending time with friends and family, reading books, watching movies and volunteering.
