What led you to OV/ your current position?
I knew I wanted to work in the nonprofit industry and this passion led me to get a Masters in Public Policy. While in the program, I was introduced to the fundraising team at Opportunity Village by one of my UNLV professors. I knew it would be a wonderful fit as I have a family member that could have utilized services here at OV. When the opportunity was presented to apply, I was extremely excited about working on behalf of a mission that I could get behind. I am currently the Director of Development and have been with the organization for 8 years as of March 2022.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Typical day is a couple of things: supporting team in their strategy or relationship management pieces, connecting with people who have interest in philanthropy and understanding their goals and how they want to support our mission; and speaking with our various stakeholders.
I also coordinate with our internal programs team on what their needs are and how our department can support them. Together we create strategies on how we can best support the programs and services for the people served at Opportunity Village.
What is the most exciting part of your job?
Interacting with the people we serve at Opportunity Village. I enjoy building relationships with them and other staff members. I love going out and doing things with the Ambassador Corps.
Who inspires you?
I have been blessed to have many mentors here locally that have taken the time to share with me their thought process and taught me how to handle difficult situations and been so kind with their time and advice and insights. I am inspired to prove them right and make them proud.
My wife and daughter also inspire me. The exciting part is that the decisions I make with them in mind. My wife is a wonderful human being and a better person than I am. I try to do her justice daily. There is also nothing better than having a little one. They are relying on you. It’s a heavy thing but also inspirational.
Historically, I look up to Thomas Jefferson. He is someone whose background has always inspired me.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
I love spending time with family. We like getting outdoors, playing golf, hiking, going on walks with the family. I love to get back to where I grew up and spend time with family and friends.
I love sports, especially soccer and golf. I love learning about history and reading when I am able to as well.
