Meet Kimberly B., Administrative Assistant for Service Contracts

In this series of "Day in the Life of ____", we will be highlighting the various professions Opportunity Village has to offer. This feature is focused on the role of Administrative Assistant for Service Contracts.

What led you to OV/your current position?

Before working at OV, I worked for Clark County Parks and Recreation as a Site Supervisor in their Safekey Program. With working there for 7 years, I found that I wanted to pursue my passion for working within the Social Services industry. While going to school FT and working, a friend of mine recommended OV. And here I am today and could not be happier about my career with OV thus far! I currently am the Administrative Assistant for Service Contracts.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day to day begins at 8:00am. Within the first hour or so of my day, I begin working on submitting or receiving our supply orders for our contracts. Throughout the day, my schedule varies dependent on the high priority tasks at hand (i.e. such tasks have been client transitions/onboarding new hires, daily submitting/receiving supply orders, daily emails and discussing Paycom details!). My day to day overall includes supporting my team with any and all tasks at hand including support of employees: client and non-client, supply ordering and receiving, completing monthly billing documents, following up on all communication at hand pertaining to a wide variety of topics via emails and phone calls, and much more! Most of my days end at 4:00pm, however there are days where flexibility is needed into the later afternoon.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

The most exciting part of my job is carrying the roll of supporting my Service Contracts team! Though I do not work directly at the clients’ sides daily, having the ability to take time within my day to be a part of their SPCP’s, interviews, or even a simple “Good morning” and conversation shared with the clients, that is what brings happiness and excitement into my day. What I also consider one of the most exciting parts of my day is to see our clients served truly thriving in their job positions out in the community. Beginning and ending my days with the mindset and goal to continue to support our clients served and assisting them in reaching their goals is the most fulfilling by far. Within Service Contracts, we are always kept on our toes with ever changing contracts and additions to contracts we service, so excitement always finds us!

Who inspires you?

There are a large amount of people who inspire me daily. Firstly, my parents inspire me every day, and continue to support me within my career path along with reminding me to continuously be myself.  I have always had a special place in my heart for individuals with disabilities looking back to when I first started working with many individuals within the Safekey program. This propelled me to interchange my major from the medical field to Psychology when first starting college. My parents have always encouraged me to choose my paths along the way, while guiding me with every step taken. Their support towards me taking on a new career path beginning 4 years ago with OV has always been visible. Many of my close friends, significant other and parents inspire me daily in all aspects of my life and continue to shape me into who I am today. All these people in my life motivate me to continue to be the absolute best version of myself, continue to follow my dreams and follow through with achieving my goals. Without my inspirations in my life, I could not be where I am today.

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not working?

During my time outside of work, I look forward to spending time with those closest to me: building memories and enjoying quality time with others is such an importance! I enjoy being outdoors any chance I can get, whether it is hiking or traveling in any sense, that is something I look forward to most. I also love to take some personal time to tap into what I need to recharge myself after a work week: this for me entails working out, taking a Pilates or yoga class, reading a good book, and spending time with pet bunny Genevieve.
