Opportunity Village is advancing the disability service provider field through hosting round-table discussions on important topics. Learn more about innOVate Speaker Series.
Friday, August 6, 2021, Opportunity Village launched the first round-table discussion series, innOVate.
The first discussion focused on the Direct CARES Opportunity Act with Rep.Susie Lee and leaders from community care providers. We were joined by Tancell Care, Chrysalis, BAI Nevada, Nevada Aging & Disability Services Division, Blindconnect Inc, Betty's Village Residents, Family Caregivers, and OV Direct Support Professionals.
In May 2021, Rep. Susie Lee introduced the Direct Creation, Advancement, and Retention of Employment (CARE) Opportunity Act (H.R 2999), legislation that invests more than $1 billion over five years in expanded training and opportunities to grow our nation's direct care workforce. Nevada and the nation face a growing shortage of direct support professionals. The COVID-19 pandemic brought additional attention to the direct care workforce and future estimates show that the United States will need an additional 5.2 million care professionals by 2024.
