Meet Stephanie F., Human Resources Specialist
In this series of "Day in the Life of ____", we will be highlighting the various professions Opportunity Village has to offer. This feature is focused on the role of Human Resources Specialist.
What led you to OV/your current position?
Opportunity Village has always been one of my favorite charitable organizations and one that I have always stood behind with their mission. I knew that someday I wanted to able to be a part of this amazing group of caring and dedicated individuals. When the Human Resources Specialist role became available, I was thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to join the team. I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to come into work with a smile on my face and be able to leave with that same smile. I love the fact that I know that I am making a difference along with a positive impact in my community and this organization.
What does a typical day look like for you?
One thing that really drew me to Human Resources is there really is no “typical” day. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make connections with those throughout the organization. I generally get into the office around 7:45am and start by assessing any emails or phone calls that may have come in from the previous day. I then check in with various members of the HR team to see if there is any support that I can offer during the day. Some of the tasks I perform throughout my day is the processing of various personnel forms, Human Resources reporting, benefits, assist with the facilitation of New Hire orientation and general Human Resources inquiries.
What is the most exciting part of your job?
I find it exciting getting to meet new people each day. Whether it is when people call into Human Resources with questions or when people stop by. I really like getting to help people and getting to know them. This is especially true when our team hosts New Hire orientation. It is very exciting to know that our team is a part of the positive first impression of our organization.
Who inspires you?
My parents and my husband inspire me every day. They are such hardworking and caring people. My father is an Assistant Fire Chief for the State of California and has always shown the value of putting people first and how to share the gift of kindness to others. My mother has dedicated her life to volunteering and stewardship. She gave me the gift of my love for the arts and my passion for volunteering within my community. My husband has shown me how to always have a sense of humor and how to remain positive. He has also given me my sense of adventure and my desire to always want to learn more.
What is your favorite thing to do when you're not working?
I love spending time with my American Bulldog/Pit “Mia” and my husband Karl. Karl and I are very active in the classic car community here in Las Vegas. We have several classic cars in our personal collection, including a 1958 Chevrolet Nomad and a 1959 Chevrolet Impala.
