Opportunity Village is partnering with MentalHappy to include unique bookmarks created by Opportunity Village clients (OVIPs) in personalized Cheerboxes.

MentalHappy is an online service that delivers personalized gift boxes referred to as a Cheerbox, to help individuals overcome anxiety, stress, worry, depression and sadness through practical and fun gifts.  A Cheerbox is a fun and encouraging surprise during life’s moments when he or she needs it the most. Each personalized Cheerbox is handcrafted with four amazing happiness tools inside. An uplifting hand written motivational note is always included. MentalHappy’s mission is to make people happier, one Cheerbox at a time.

“Opportunity Village is excited to partner with an organization whose mission is to support the health and happiness of others. OVIP artists create each bookmark with love and the artists are overjoyed to share their talent and stories with Cheerbox recipients,” said Bob Brown, president and CEO of Opportunity Village.

Cheerbox recipients across the country and throughout Canada will enjoy hand-painted bookmarks from OVIPs in Opportunity Village’s Fine Art Program. Cheerboxes cost $39.00, which includes free shipping  via UPS, and can be ordered online at https://mentalhappy.com/OpportunityVillage. 5% of all Cheerbox proceeds go to support the mission and efforts of Opportunity Village.

Opportunity Village’s Fine Art Program is a progressive visual arts program that encourages artists with intellectual and related disabilities to discover their artistic talents, refine their techniques or learn new ones through an individualized artistic process set in an open studio. In the studio, each artist maintains a professional studio practice as working artists, building a body of work for exhibition and sale.

Carlos Santana and Hermes Music Donate Instruments to Opportunity Village’s Fine and Performing Arts Program

LAS VEGAS – Yesterday legendary musician Carlos Santana visited the Engelstad Campus of Las Vegas’ most notable charity – Opportunity Village. After a heartfelt and touching tour of the facility with Opportunity Village executives Ed Guthrie and Linda Smith, Santana was treated to a moving performance by Opportunity Village’s new performing arts group, The OVertones. The group performed a special medley of some of Santana’s greatest hits, which he was truly honored and humbled to experience. The visit featured a donation of more than 60 musical instruments from Santana and longtime associate Hermes Music, including acoustic guitars, tambourines and cowbells for Opportunity Village’s Fine and Performing Arts Program.

Santana has been a big supporter of the Las Vegas community and it has become his tradition before each of his House of Blues runs to visit charitable organizations that make our city thrive, or recognize local groups or schools that are doing great things for our community. The House of Blues headliner returns to shows at the House of Blues on September 16.

About Opportunity Village

Mission: Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves people within our community with significant intellectual disabilities, to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

Opportunity Village was founded in 1954 by seven families who were determined to give their children with disabilities the best lives possible. Now, more than 60 years later, Opportunity Village is one of the most recognized and respected organizations of its type in the United States.

Nevada’s largest employer of people with disabilities (who we call OVIPs), Opportunity Village serves nearly 2,000 individuals annually, providing vocational training, employment, habilitation and social recreation programs and services that make their lives more purposeful and interesting.

Opportunity Village citizens – individuals who were previously considered unemployable – work at Opportunity Village’s Employment Resource Centers and in jobs throughout the community, collectively earning wages amounting to more than $3.9 million in 2014.  They are hard-working and diligent, proudly paying taxes and happily leading more fulfilling lives.

Primarily a self-funded organization, Opportunity Village generates the majority of its operational funding through its employment contracts and fundraising efforts such as the Magical Forest and Great Santa Run, saving Nevada taxpayers nearly $35 million annually.

About Grimaldi’s Pizzeria:

In the world of pizza, Grimaldi’s is an institution that has garnered more awards than any other pizzeria in the country with more celebrity sightings than most 5-star restaurants.  Using only the freshest ingredients, a “secret recipe” pizza sauce, handmade mozzarella cheese and dough, Grimaldi’s serves traditional pizza (as it began in Naples, Italy) in an upscale yet casual, family oriented pizzeria. The intense heat of the oven evenly bakes the pies to create Grimaldi’s famous crispy and smoky thin crust that Zagat has voted best pizza year after year. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria has five locations in Las Vegas and one in Sparks, Nev.  Las Vegas locations include The Shoppes at The Palazzo, Rainbow and 215, Boca Park Fashion Village The Fashion Show Mall and Richmar Plaza.  The Sparks restaurant is located in The Legends at Sparks Marina.

Opportunity Village to Present Unforgettable Experience to Chris Strub with Campus Tour and Day of Volunteering June 20, 2015 08:23

Social traveler highlights organizations nationwide with “50 States, 100 Days” campaign

LAS VEGAS – Opportunity Village will host Chris Strub of #TeamStrub as part of his “50 States, 100 Days” awareness campaign on June 17th at the Engelstad and Oakey campus from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Opportunity Village will conduct an hour-long tour filled with handshakes, hugs and high-fives then train Strub on volunteering. He will help artists in the Opportunity Village Art Studio then assist OVIPs in the Employment Resource Center. After volunteering, he will tour the organization’s Oakey campus, home of the Magical Forest, and meet more people Opportunity Village serves.

Not-for-profit organizations in all 50 states are the focus this summer as part of Strub’s 100-day social media powered journey. Strub, an advocate for people in need from Greenville, S.C., will spend a day volunteering with a different organization in every U.S. state, which began May 15 in Charleston, S.C. and will finish August 21st in Asheville, N.C.

“We are very excited to host Chris Strub during his visit in Las Vegas and can’t wait to introduce him to the inspiring individuals of OV,” says Veronica Atkins, special events manager of Opportunity Village. “We love working with people from around the world to advocate and educate them on the mission of OV as well as issues surrounding individuals with intellectual disabilities.”

Strub is using Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Meerkat to help raise awareness of the many organizations making a difference in the lives of people across the country. Strub also aims to raise national awareness for Pay Away the Layaway, a New York-based charity that pays layaway bills for families in need during the holiday season.

For more information, including the full trip itinerary, visit www.teamstrub.com. Keep up to date with Strub’s journey by visiting his Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/TeamStrub as well as his SnapChat, Twitter, Instagram and Meerkat pages at the handle @ChrisStrub.
